Responsible for administrative support for the Director of Surgical Services.

High School diploma or equivalent. Medical terminology.
One year administrative experience in medical or hospital setting. Advanced computer skills.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assists in orienting new staff members. Participates in peer evaluation. Acts as a preceptor. Collaborates with members of the health care profession, other citizens in promoting efforts to address the healthcare needs of the public.Actively participates in community organizations to provide a positive image of Harrison Medical Center. Types and sends letters: copies for Director, Team Leaders, OR Clinical Educator, etc. Types policies, procedures, and job descriptions; takes and transcribes minutes at meetings; distributes minutes and memos promptly. Types with no errors. Answers phones, takes messages; distributes mail; orders supplies as needed; arranges appointments for Director as appropriate. Updates policy and procedures and physicians privileges books promptly as new information is received through the Director. Completes payroll information and submits to payroll department in a timely manner. Enters personnel data in computer and updates as necessary. Maintains all employee attendance records up to date. Updates nursing licenses. Pulls reports and makes up statistical reports as requested from Director and others. Works on varied projects with Director (research, typing, assembling projects). Helps troubleshoot computer problems; knowledge in ESI and Novell system; retrieves statistical reports from ESI OR journal, etc. Holds inservices on computer skills. Works with Medical Affairs Secretary on updating surgeon for renewal of privileges. Researches information: helps with meetings by ordering audiovisual equipment, reserving rooms, arranging food, etc. Issues new radiology badges every three months for doctors and staff, deleting terminated employees and adding new ones. Works at main desk, SDS, and “old” desk as required. Practices confidentiality. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director. Volunteers for extra assignments. Displays loyalty to administration and to the hospital. Refrains from discussing hospital problems with, or in the presence of the patient, family, and customers. Discourages misinformation/rumors about the hospital in a public setting. Functions as an effective tiam member. Collaborates effectively with other team members.
