POSITION SUMMARY: A Registered Nurse who has advanced education and experience in their area of clinical focus. They are responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating and revising academic and continuing education programs for nurses and other clinical providers. Their role is to enhance and strengthen the nursing workforce serving as a role model and providing leadership in evaluating quality and implementing evidence based practice. Their role will include presentation, bedside coaching and instruction, program development, research oversight, quality education and change management as we implement evidence into practice. They will work collaboratively with Education Services to assess and train to service line educational needs. They will assist Clinical Managers in their areas with tracking and providing the educational competencies of their staff.
EDUCATION REQUIRED: Registered Nursing degree from an accredited program. Bachelors Degree: preferred Nursing or Education; may be in progress. Preferred: Masters in Nursing or Education; may be in progress.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Registered Nurse in the State of Washington.
SPECIALIZED TRAINING REQUIRED: Knowledge and skill in adult education theory and practice.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains competency in area of expertise through clinical skill update and continued annual training.
Maintains BLS instructor qualifications and certification for area in clinical specialty i.e. ACLS, PALS, etc.
Participation in professional associations for specialty.
Completes annual mandatory education for area of specialty.
Preferred: Current certification in area of specialty i.e. CEN, CCRN etc.
Population Specific continuing competency requirements: As directed by Harrison Medical Center standards
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum 3 years in clinical specialty focus with competency at the competent or expert level. Preferred: previous clinical education or management experience in clinical setting. Experience in formal and lab settings as an educational provider both didactic and bedside instruction.
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated skills in age specific educational assessment, curriculum development, program
implementation and evaluation.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Works collaboratively with Directors, Managers, Residency Program Coordinator and Education Services to develop and implement hospital and division goals. Aligns education and supports clinical development with quality and strategic initiatives across the hospital system, including risk management events. Scope of service is focused on clinical program development without restriction to area or department.
Participates in orientation, resident training and the development of staff competency and skill as well as root cause analysis for area. Utilizes Learning Management System for training documentation, reporting and measurement. Develops and maintains relationships with nursing schools and supports the student experience through training and preceptor development. Promotes lifelong learning.
Develops, facilitates and presents educational materials, selecting the best learning methodology for each program, acting as a role model/mentor/consultant/coach to clinicians, encouraging scholarly development and engaging staff as formal educators and trainers, using innovative, evidence based interventions, best-practice guidelines, professional standards and organizational policies to improve outcomes.
Demonstrates stewardship in fiscal management to ensure appropriate and efficient resource utilization. Participates in equipment and supply trials, facilitates the clinical education and competency for clinical products and equipment.
Participates in periodic and annual assessment of educational programs. Provides CE applications where appropriate. Creates a quality report for program outcomes, including working with clinical leadership to ensure competency of staff.
Must have regular, reliable, predictable attendance in performance of essential job functions.
