Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

At the direction of a radiologist, and the appropriate supervisor, the computed tomography technologist will perform all computed tomography procedures and diagnostic radiology exams as outlined in the Medical Imaging procedure manual and computed tomography protocol manual. The computed tomography technologist will provide for the normal care and safety of patients undergoing computed tomography procedures. The computed tomography technologist will respond to medical and other emergencies within and outside of the computed tomography area as appropriate. Provide radiation protection in accordance with the prescribed standards. Perform clerical functions to facilitate department operations. Notify Lead of supply or equipment needs.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Satisfy completion of formal training in a Joint Review Committee approved school of Radiologic Technology

LICENSE / CERTIFICATION / REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Current active status with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

Washington State Certification in Radiologic Technology

ARRT CT registry required within 1 year of employment as a CT technologist if hired after October 2008

ARRT CT registry required within 2 year of employment as a CT technologist if hired between 1999 and October 2008

BLS Certification

CONTINUING EDUCATION & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Continuing education and/or licensing requirements:

Must demonstrate completion of ARRT continuing education requirements

Must meet all mandatory annual hospital continuing education requirements

Population Specific continuing competency requirements:

CT Technologists must document a minimum of one hour each of pediatric and geriatric CE bi-annually

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Two years as a registered Radiologic Technologist

Minimum of six months CT experience

Successful completion of CT competency assessment tool for new CT technologists

Personal Protective Equipment Required:

Radiation shielding as appropriate, eye and other barrier protection (gloves, gown, mask) as appropriate.

Standard radiation protection equipment: Lead apron, thyroid shield, etc

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Facilitates and promotes effective communication, teamwork and communication within the Department of Medical Imaging and throughout the Medical team as documented by peer evaluation and observation.

Appropriately prioritizes exams in CT with other needs within Medical Imaging. Participate in problem solving with peers in other areas of department and hospital to facilitate optimal patient care when there are conflicting priorities. as evidenced by observation

Attends and participates in staff meetings. Provides appropriate constructive input for the improvement and operation of the department.

Participates in the training of radiologic technologist students as well as radiologic technologists training in CT. Consistently demonstrates exemplary teaching skills and seeks opportunities to share knowledge with others.

Identifies and makes recommendation for improvement, and assists in programs for improvement in patient care or systems as measured by peer evaluation and documented by supervisor. Suggests, implements and documents at least one Quality improvement project per year.

Demonstrates consistent quality of care and professional expertise in all interactions with patients as documented by peer review, documentation review and observation.

Demonstrates good judgment and independent problem solving skills in a variety of patient related and staff situations. Provides potential solutions along with identifying problems.

Demonstrates clear concise documentation skills. Follows established protocols measured by results of documentation. Suggest and writes new or improved protocols to improve patient care within the CT department.

Demonstrates self-motivation and professional integrity. Uses work time appropriately to meet the needs of patients and Medical Imaging department. Manages time effectively, assist others as able and not requiring excessive overtime unless requested. Consistently offers help to others in Medical Imaging without being asked.
