POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides a clean aesthetically pleasing environment for Patients, Visitors and Staff

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

High School education or equivalent

CONTINUING EDUCATION & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Continuing education and/or licensing requirements:

Professional continuing education as required by the Director of Environmental Services and hospital.

Population Specific continuing competency requirements: YES

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Prior hospital housekeeping experience preferred not required. On the job training provided.

ENVIRONMENTAL / JOB CONDITIONS:

Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals or Substances and/or Infection: Risk of exposure to infectious disease during all patient and contaminated item contacts.

Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens: Risk of exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens during all patient and contaminate item contacts.

Personal Protective Equipment Required: The following will be required on the specific hazard: Gloves, Face shield, Isolation gowns, Respirators, Hair covers, Shoe covers, and any other protective equipment required by regulations or policies.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responds quickly and professionally to Code Red (R.A.C.E), Code External Triage (Disaster), Code Gray (Belligerent behavior). Hazardous and Material spills per department policy.

Demonstrates clear knowledge of where all manuals are located and can access plans and policies within the following manuals, “Emergency Preparedness, Material Safety Data Sheets and Cleaning Procedures.

Demonstrates consistent quality of cleanliness and professional expertise in all assigned tasks as per cleaning schedules and Quality Assurance reports.

Uses Universal Precautions and wears Personal Protective Equipment at all Times as required by department and Hospital Standards.

Thoughtfully recommends Quality Improvements to department polices, procedures and operations to the Supervisor on the “Opportunity for Improvement form” at least once a year. Two improvements, which can be implemented, turned in on the form in the year.

Demonstrates flexibility in a rapidly changing health care environment by accepting change and working to meet unexpected challenges within the Environmental Services Department. Provides remarkable service, consistently giving more than the customer expects or asks for.

Maintains established departmental polices and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards at all time throughout the hospital.

Daily maintains work areas to include all cleaning equipment, custodial closet, carts, and proper labeling of chemical containers, according to departmental standards and procedures.

Consistently demonstrates proper handling procedures of chemical waste, Chemotherapeutic waste, radioactive waste, and regulated medical or infectious waste, including sharps.

Must have regular, reliable, predictable attendance in performance of essential job functions.

During an emergency, disaster, or catastrophic event, which places life or property in jeopardy, employee may be assigned to any disaster service activity that promotes the protection of public health and safety. Assignment might require serving at a location, at times and/or under conditions that significantly differ from employee's normal work assignments. As an employee of Harrison Medical Center, employee may be directed to perform a role other than their regular job, by a superior or by law.
